Technical draft, not legally reviewed. The data controller must be identified before the commercial launch.

What this site does today

  • There's no analytics. Accounts are optional and only used to contribute to the community.
  • We only ask for your position if you click “Use my position”. It is rounded and used to calculate visibility from that point.
  • The coordinates you look up are sent to our API for the calculation. We don't store them in a database.
  • Your IP address is held briefly in memory to limit API abuse and is not stored. Cloudflare's infrastructure may process it as the service provider.

Third-party services in your browser

When you open the map, your browser requests tiles directly from these services, which receive your IP address:

  • OpenFreeMap: base map.
  • NASA GIBS: only if you turn on a satellite or relief layer.
  • Stay22: only if you select a price link. From then on, the policies of Stay22 and the booking platform apply.

If you click a link to a shop or an accommodation website, you leave Astrovents and its privacy policy applies. We don't record those clicks.

If you create an account

  • We store your email only for signing in, and it is never published. If you use a password, it is stored with irreversible encryption: nobody can read it.
  • The alias you choose is published alongside your approved spots, ratings and photos.
  • Photos are stored without metadata: we remove the GPS position and camera data.
  • If you mark a spot as approximate, the public only sees its coordinates rounded to about 1 km.
  • If you report content, we store the report with your account. Only moderators see it, and we don't show it to whoever published the content.
  • Providers: Supabase (accounts and database, in the European Union), Cloudflare (website and photos) and Resend, which sends sign-in emails from the European Union. Resend is a US company, so your email address may be transferred internationally.
  • While you're signed in, your browser stores technical session cookies, which are needed for it to work and don't require consent.
  • We keep the data while you have an account. You can delete it from your account page, along with your spots, ratings and photos.
